Full course description
This self-paced course introduces UMKC faculty to the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework—a research-based approach that helps you design learning experiences with student variability in mind. UDL empowers instructors to:
- Remove common barriers to learning.
- Support a wider range of student needs.
- Foster success for all learners.
Grounded in neuroscience, UDL provides concrete strategies for making your courses more inclusive and engaging. You’ll explore:
- The philosophy behind UDL and why it matters.
- The three UDL principles and guidelines.
- Practical techniques for applying UDL to content, activities, and assessments.
By the end of this sprint, you will have created three course elements (content, activities, or assessments) that reflect UDL principles and can be implemented immediately.
Who should enroll?
UMKC instructors who want to make their courses more accessible, inclusive, and effective for all students.
What you’ll gain:
- A deeper understanding of UDL and its benefits.
- Actionable strategies for course design.
- Ready-to-use materials for your classes.
