Full course description
The UMKC Impact & Translation Series is designed to help faculty, researchers, and graduate students think more clearly about how their work can move beyond discovery and into real-world impact.
Through a series of short videos, guided reflections, and supporting materials, participants will explore the practical questions that shape translation and commercialization: identifying potential users, understanding readiness, protecting intellectual property, evaluating pathways to impact, building teams, and supporting next steps through partnerships or funding.
The series is intentionally designed as an accessible introduction rather than a business or startup course. Its goal is to help participants better understand how research, scholarship, and innovation can create value beyond traditional academic outputs.
Each module is paired with short reinforcement quizzes and reflective prompts that encourage participants to apply the concepts directly to their own work. The course also connects participants to the broader UMKC Office of Commercialization whitepaper library for deeper exploration of individual topics.
