Teaching Large Enrollment Courses
Designing with Intention. Teaching with Impact.

Teaching a large class presents both opportunity and challenge. With more students in the room, it becomes more important to design intentionally, communicate clearly, and assess meaningfully. This self-paced professional learning course equips faculty with research-informed strategies and practical tools for teaching large-enrollment courses—without defaulting to one-size-fits-all instruction.

Over five concise modules (approximately 45 minutes each), you’ll explore key areas of effective large-class teaching: course design, instructional strategies, assessment, student communication, and continuous improvement. The course is designed to support faculty who want to sustain high-quality instruction at scale—balancing efficiency with engagement, and structure with flexibility.

You’ll also consider how generative AI can support large-course instruction, from serving as the textbook by providing course materials, providing feedback on discussion posts, to providing immediate feedback on quizzes. While we don’t treat AI as a magic fix, we do invite you to explore its potential. While you are learning about teaching large enrollment courses, you will also be interacting with generative AI from a student perspective.

Whether you’re refining a legacy course or preparing to teach your first large section, this experience is built to support your thinking, spark ideas, and encourage reflective practice. And because it’s asynchronous and self-paced, you can work through it on your own schedule.
